Assala Energy

Upstream oil and gas company created by Carlyle in 2017, holding six onshore production licences in Gabon and focused on redeveloping mature fields with ESG criteria integrated throughout.

Assala Energy is an upstream oil and gas exploration and production company created by Carlyle in 2017 to acquire and redevelop mid-life and mature assets. The firm integrates environmental, social and governance criteria into every business decision and states commitments to safety, integrity and sustainable development, alongside a stated focus on reducing its carbon footprint. Four of its onshore production licences in Gabon were renewed in 2019 for 25 years.

The company holds six onshore oil production licences in Gabon - Rabi Kounga II, Toucan II, Bende M'Bassou Totou II, Koula/Damier, Gamba/Ivinga and Atora II - and has acquired three onshore exploration licences. Its assets include one of the largest onshore oil fields in Sub-Saharan Africa. Its operating strategy is built on field redevelopment and the streamlining of operations at mature assets.

Headquartered in London, Assala Energy employs over 500 people across Gabon and the United Kingdom, having grown from a founding team of five in 2017. Gabon is the centre of its primary operations.
